Congratulations to the College of Engineering team of graduate students Harshad Kulkarni, Arjun Mohan, Husain Tawawala, and Aashish Yadav, who won the EY (for Ernst & Young Partners In Education Program) Inclusive Leadership Case Competition held on October 18 during the two-day Inclusive Leadership Summit (ILS), hosted by EY and the Isenberg School of Management as the nexus of campus diversity and inclusion efforts. The competition challenged students to better understand the thinking around inclusion and diversity in the workplace.
The purpose of the summit was for students to understand how they can be effective in integrating diversity and inclusion practices into business cultures. The summit was the first of its kind at UMass Amherst and the first in the Pioneer Valley.
The competition asked teams of four undergraduate students apiece to demonstrate critical thinking, strong presentation skills, teamwork, and time management.
As the competition website explained to the competitors, “You will take away a deeper understanding of inclusion and diversity in the workplace, stronger presentation skills, professionalism, and a larger network of relationships. Each member of the winning team will receive a plaque and $200.”
The ILS summit brought together industry partners, alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community leaders to share best practices, industry trends, and concerns related to diversity and inclusion in business.
“Undergraduate and graduate students from Isenberg and beyond will benefit from the knowledge presented at the ILS,” as the summit website observed. “Students will attend panel presentations, keynote speaker presentations, and workshops administered by professional thought leaders on inclusion, moderated by faculty and staff.” (November 2019)
