Professor Yahya Modarres-Sadeghi has been selected as one of 50 fellows to participate in the very prestigious Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program. 

Assistant Professor Wen Chen of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) Department has been named a Sandra L. Bouckley Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineers, as recognized by SME (formerly the Society of Manufacturing Engineers). 

Professor Jeffrey M. Davis of the Chemical Engineering (ChE) Department has been appointed the new head of ChE. Davis takes over for ChE Associate Professor Jessica Schiffman, who has done an outstanding job as acting department head for the past academic year.

The UMass Amherst Board of Trustees has approved Erin Baker for the position of Distinguished Professor in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department.  They also awarded tenure to Simos Gerasimidis and Kara D. Peterman, both from CEE.

Professor Michael Zink of the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department was the subject of the cover story and interview in the February edition of the Red Hat Research Quarterly. Read online version of the article.

Alumna Rena Bizios, who earned her BS degree from the Chemical Engineering Department in 1968, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAA&S).  Bizios was previously elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2022, the National Academy of Inventors in 2019, and the National Academy of Medicine in 2015.

Seven College of Engineering students have received awards and scholarships from the UMass Amherst Alumni Association, including one Greater Boston Alumni Network Scholarship, one Senior Leadership Award, and five William F. Field Alumni Scholars awards. 

An editorial in Masslive gave a rave review to the recent opening of the University of Massachusetts Transportation Center (UMTC) Aviation Research and Training facility adjacent to the Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee.

Professor Blair Perot, head of the Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in the UMass Amherst Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department, and his collaborator Shujaut Bader of Iowa State University have been awarded a U.S. Patent for their trailblazing concept of a “Wind Turbine Airfoil Structure for Increasing Wind Farm Efficiency.”
