The College of Engineering’s graduate programs continue to rank among the best in the nation as reported in the new 2023 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools.

The 2023 graduate program rankings list the College of Engineering as ranked at 57. U.S News also named the college #30 among public engineering institutions, and the college remains the #1 public engineering program in New England.

In addition, graduate rankings published for specialty areas in the College of Engineering include chemical engineering at 34; civil at 48; computer at 38; electrical/electronic/communications at 53; environmental/environmental health at 45; industrial/manufacturing/systems at 39; material at 49; mechanical at 63; and biomedical at 82.

The published rankings are based on reputational surveys of deans and industry, as well as statistical indicators that assess the strength and quality of a school’s research, students, and faculty.  They are just one benchmark of success in academia.

U.S. News stresses that “the rankings themselves should not be used as the sole basis to decide to attend one graduate program or school over another. Prospective students should consider other factors as well, like a school's course offerings, department culture, the total cost to obtain the degree, debt after graduation, the advising or mentoring a student can expect to receive, the school's location and campus life.”
