The 2017 U.S. News & World Report graduate program rankings are out, and the College of Engineering at UMass Amherst is once again the top public engineering college in New England. Coupled with a top thirty ranking for the full University of Massachusetts Amherst, one may ask: "What places us here? Why are we a destination of choice for an affordable and excellent engineering education?" Well, the data collected in the rankings points to the quality of our research and academic programs, but, more importantly, it is the outstanding work and reputation of our faculty, students, alumni, and staff that drives our success. We are pleased to share with you a collection of recent stories that exemplify our excellence.
One key example that has received considerable media attention is our Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere (CASA), where our researchers have deployed radar systems and advanced analytics to detect and track severe weather and can put that information to work to save lives.
Enjoy learning more about some of our latest research results, outreach programs, and our new Experiential Learning Center, which encourages students to explore opportunities both in and beyond the curriculum to increase their post-graduation success. Also, please join me in congratulating eleven undergraduates who have received prestigious campus awards this academic year, including the Rising Researcher Award, William F. Field Alumni Scholarship, and a Senior Leadership Award.
