The Dean's Advisory Council is comprised of accomplished alumni and friends from industry, government, and academia. The council reconvened in Fall 2018. One of the first topics taken up by a sub-group was to brainstorm how to make the College a community of Choice, including bridging the recruitment, retention and resources gaps.
Engineering Mindfulness in Climate and Curriculum (EMC^2) is a faculty-student committee that was formed from the Dean’s Advisory Council. The purpose is to have a forum where faculty and students can share thoughts on the classroom, community, and curriculum and set goals and strategies for change, particularly to promote a welcoming and inclusive environment. This committee was initiated by two students (Lia Ciemeny, ME ’19 and Jackie Thornton, CompEng ’20) who participated in the Dean’s Advisory Council subgroup meeting on "Building a Community of Choice."
The College’s EMC^2 Committee meets with students ~2x a semester to broadly discuss curriculum, students experience, and how to recruit more women and students of color.
