Arranging for a photographer

Photography requests should be sent to Heather Demers.

Departments and research groups may request photo documentation of their events and activities by the Engineering Communications Office staff. To accommodate scheduling, requests should be submitted via email at least one week prior to the desired photo shoot.

Student groups are recommended to submit a request via their department. If not directly with a department, you may email the Engineering Communications Office for consideration.

Professional freelance photographers should be hired for events that feature exciting photo opportunities ideal for publication and website use. We request that you coordinate with the College of Engineering Communications Office.

On a limited basis, University Relations also offers assistance with event photography. They target events that will supply images that will have the widest possible use for the University as a whole. Submit your request for consideration.

Photography Consents

Releases are not required for crowd or campus scene photos.

Photos of individuals (over age 18) attending and participating in an event also do not require consent, however, in an abundance of caution, you may elect to issue a statement on invitations and/or place notice in a prominent place at venue entrance:

This event may be photographed and/or recorded for promotional or recruitment materials for the University of Massachusetts Amherst. For further information please contact [insert event organizer and contact info].

Photos taken in closed shoots may require a consent, please contact Heather Demers with questions.

Parental consent is required for photographs/video of minors (i.e., anyone under age 18). Do not take recognizable photographs or video of visiting grade school/high school groups. Prior approval must be arranged.
