The College of Engineering offers resources and opportunities that we have found will support our students, give them every opportunity to develop into professional engineers, and build the skills and knowledge required to launch successful careers and life-long friendships.
There are numerous tutoring services available for all engineering students, ranging from Help Centers in some departments, to Supplemental Instruction offered by the Learning Resource Center, and including group study and tutoring offered by the college’s Diversity Programs Office.
The annual University of Massachusetts Innovation Challenge awards more than $65,000 in prizes each academic year through competitive events designed to support UMass students and young alumni while pursuing novel business ideas, developing new technologies into marketable products, or presenting new approaches to difficult problems. The goal is for interdisciplinary teams to conceptualize new products with regard to their scientific and technological designs and create business plans for their commercialization.
In the College of Engineering there are currently 16 official student organizations with various missions and memberships. Most of these organizations are campus chapters of national professional and honors organizations geared to specific engineering fields. Participation in one of more of these chapters offers important opportunities for hands-on engineering experiences serving humanitarian causes, participating in community service and outreach initiatives, developing leadership skills, and making connections with other students and faculty within the college.
