Jennifer Suglia Kramer to Receive Chancellor’s Citation

Jennifer Suglia Kramer, the administrative officer in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department, has been chosen to receive a 2010 Chancellor’s Citation. The annual Chancellor's Citation Award recognizes and honors employees who have demonstrated exemplary and outstanding service to the university in one or more of the following ways: original contributions; attainment of high-priority objectives; service "beyond the call of duty"; significant improvements in productivity and/or operational savings. Individuals are nominated by supervisors, professional colleagues, or others familiar with the work of nominees. As one of her nomination letters noted, “Jennifer has made a number of original contributions to the university that will be of lasting significance.”

One example is the work she had done in the past few months related to the MIE CLASS-E campaign (for Computer Lab and Student Space Exploratorium), a project she suggested and spearheaded. According to one letter, “She coordinated the efforts with Physical Plant to get estimates of the cost of renovating the space, helped with the development of materials to present at alumni functions…, and has continued in the coordination and execution of plans to bring the capital campaign and actual construction to fruition.”

Another big job she has supervised is the transition of the MIE department from a distributed to a unified model of administrative services for the faculty. Now the faculty can obtain “one-stop help” for services related to travel, graduate student appointments, procurement, and others, while cutting paperwork time drastically.

In addition to many other things Jennifer has brought to the MIE department, her nomination letters praised “her role as a real leader, one who inspires others to do their very best, as a real innovator, one who proposes actions with lasting and profound impacts on the department, and as a real asset, one who follows through from start to finish on many different initiatives.”

As one faculty member noted in his nomination letter, “I have been a faculty member at five educational institutions during my 42 years in academia. Our staff situation in MIE is by far the best that I have ever experienced. This is mainly due to the success of Ms. Jennifer Suglia Kramer in organizing and managing our staff.” (March 2010)
