Professor Wayne Burleson of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department delivered the Distinguished Faculty Lecture, Embedded Security: An Ongoing Challenge for Healthcare, on March 23 at 4 p.m. As part of the event, Burleson was presented with the Chancellor’s Medal, the highest recognition bestowed upon faculty by the campus.
Burleson’s lecture explored the security and privacy issues emerging with the growth of “smart” and connected healthcare technology. Burleson, one of the world’s premier researchers in the field, discussed these concerns and how UMass Amherst is leading and participating in several national and international collaborations to solve these hard multidisciplinary problems and deploy solutions. The team combines expertise in engineering, computer science, nursing, medicine, and public health.
Established in 1974, the annual Distinguished Faculty Lecture is dedicated to acknowledging the work of the University’s most esteemed and accomplished faculty members. The lecture series not only honors individual faculty members and their achievements, but also celebrates the values of academic excellence that we share as a community.
